Position Statement

I am honored to be a candidate for IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB)  Vice President.  If elected Vice President, I plan to continue preparing TAB for the future to enrich the lives and careers of our volunteers and members.  I recognize that our volunteers and members contribute their intellectual property and time to make the TAB the premiere technology organization.  My TAB Vice President’s candidate position statement is presented below.

Position Statement

IEEE Technical Activities Board is the premiere leader in electrical and electronic technologies and it would be an honor and challenge to lead TAB to create the future strategies to lead us into the future.  If elected TAB Vice President, I will work diligently to:

  1. Fund and support new technical initiatives to promote IEEE’s vision of emerging technologies.  We have the technology leaders from academia and industry and I want IEEE to lead in the discussion and creation of impactful new technology ideas and visions.
  2. Streamline the bureaucracy of our governance rules so that our leaders and volunteers can focus on delivering world-class publications, conferences, and standards. We need to empower our leaders/volunteers to make decisions without a lengthy approval cycle and to accelerate the delivery of our ideas using new information distribution channels suitable to our mobile modern era.
  3. Seek new revenue-generation ideas, adapt our content to the changing member demographics and implement faster content delivery methods.  Our new technologies are emphasizing more cross-disciplinary knowledge and personalized content delivery rather than our traditional silo content approach.
  4. Reduce unnecessary and inefficient IEEE infrastructure costs which are overly taxing our product and service revenues.  I will work to produce comprehensive financial transparency reports so that we can reduce costs appropriately, and return more revenue back to societies and councils to support their new revenue generating initiatives.

I will work cooperatively with our society/council presidents, IEEE regional and division directors, and IEEE staff to achieve these objectives.  We will require a comprehensive and visionary strategic plan that will create a roadmap to continue IEEE as the leader in emerging technologies.  I will work to involve our IEEE regions/sections/chapters in our technology dialog so that their inputs are incorporated into our path forward.

We have the talent and leadership to address our future challenges.  It will be an honor and privilege to lead TAB leadership to meet these challenges.
